/out/ on a comfy prairie hike, quite literally where the deer and the antelope play. The chokecherries are pretty dry this year, and the seasonal waterbodies are all empty, the landscape looks like its ready for the first snowfall already.

Did Lake of the Crags yesterday. 2.2 miles straight up. You gain like 2700 ft of elevation. I had knee surgery in April and I was dying heading up and hurting going down. The two miles to the trailhead was easy, so I don’t really count that.

Not especially remote, but found a good hunting spot with shots up to 500 yards. There is a feed pot across the valley on the left of the power lines, and in my weekend there spotted two legal bucks and several doe-fawn groups.

The spot is only half a mile off the road into the brush, however about half way there is a 30' cliff that cannot be detoured without going over a mile around.

This was the easiest route I could find while limited by my 50' rope. I repelled it with my loaded pack and climbed back up several times with an ascended without issue, however I'm still trying to figure out how to lift out a deer.

My idea right now is to buy some cheap utility rope and when I rappel in, tie off the utility rope as well and toss it down. After field dressing the deer (fingers crossed I get one lol), I will tie it onto the utility rope, and climb out on my line. Once out, I will tie off my ascender with my lanyard to a tree, and use it as a ratchet to help pull up the deer.

Any thoughts?

I get knee pain all the time. It doesn't mean shit. It usually wont hurt at all on the most intense of hikes and then be borderline crippling while doing the most menial of activities. Fucking tendonitis

I like looking for and finding old gold mines in my area. So far I have found 2 but today when I was looking for another I found an old pot, for some reason these are always around the mines. The bad thing was I live in Alaska and if you look close you can see blueberries next to the pot. There were so many bears out I gave up and might wait til winter to look.

Actually here's about 10,000 or so acres of public hunting land about 30 minutes away from me. This time of year it's humid as fuck, and overrun by greenbriar/rattlesnakes though.

There's a lot more public land then people think, but nowhere near as much as most other states. It just really depends which part of the state you move to.

Anyways, from late May til mid October, going /out/ sucks balls unless you're swimming so you're most likely gonna be stuck indoors.
