just took out a wasp nest, whacked it with a long ass metal pipe. 7-8 hits and ran like hell, anyone else got stories of being sting to death

I've hit 5 ground nests and been stung nine times this summer at work. Starting to have bad reactions to the stings.

I'm a forestry tech working in an area where the brush is so thick you can't see the ground or what you're stepping on. Every time my crew goes out to lay boundary or cruise it is guaranteed that someone is gonna get swarmed. The salmon berry and vinemaple are so thick that it's hard to run away.

Going /out/ has become my worst nightmare now. Fuck wasps.

For paper wasps, I just reach up real slow and detach the entire next with my bare hand, take it to another location, set it down, and slowly position my foot over it then squish it quickly. I've never been stung doing that. If you try that, slowness is the key and don't breath on them.

I'm asking because I just stomped a wasp on my balcony, and I'm pretty sure there's a nest in the unit below mine since I see them buzzing around down there all the time

Dilute dish soap with water in a spray bottle and soak the nest. You’ll kill them without resorting to neonictinoids and it kills them so fast they don’t have time to react.

I do this and just knock the nest down only if they build one on my front porch. I don’t believe the soap kills them so don’t take that as gospel but it does daze them where they will not fly.

Friend of mine growing up always thought I was a huge pussy from running away from wasps, my dad was a hoarder and had four unused vehicles that collected dust so coming home every day was a challenge of getting inside without being stung or one getting in the house.

One day he stepped on a wasp nest that was knocked down, got stung four times then called me sounded like he cried and just said "I understand now."
