>>1345166My girlfriend and I wen't to Hungary one summer to hike some trail for 4-5 days. It was a very dry year and on the second day of walking we where almost out of water from drinking a lot in the heat and from cooking dinner in the evening. We had thought that finding water wouldn't be a problem since our map showed plenty of streams and rivers, but they where all dried out.
When the seriousness of the situation struck us we decided walking to our best bet: a large stream marked on the map, inside a forest with steep slopes on both sides, potentially still flowing.
We took a break in the shade, dumped our bags, and I walked down the slope for half a kilometre while my GF stayed back. When I got to the bottom there was only a tiny stream still flowing and the place was humming with wasps everywhere as the insects aparently was feeling the drought as well. I filled all our water containers, went back up, and the next hour or more we filtered the sketchy looking water through our t-shirts and bioled it afterwards.
