Made it to around 1400m, trail was nigh impossible to follow uphill, coming back down you could see the next cairn easily but on the way up distinguishing intentional stone piles for natural ones wasn't doable.
Only had 2 days off work but I'm glad I got to at least get into the massif I've been staring at all summer across the lake, sadly there was cloud cover at 1700m so I didn't get to see the peaks close up.
The path is around 200m east of where it says on the map, the approach to where the trail uphill starts is 2 hours of bushwhacking, then I realized because the lake is so low that it's possible to cross the marshy area at the mouth of the small bay, got wet up to my knees but took 1/3 of the time and didn't swear every 20 seconds from branches in my face.
Got ninja shits on the way back down, not fun when you're wearing pants with suspenders, an anorak and backpack on a 45 degree slope with a 300m drop to the glacier run off in a canyon below.
