What does /out/ think of this new knife made by Buck and designed by Ron Hood?

As a 5.5 inch outdoor/survival knife made with 5160 alloy steel (spring steel) ... I'm thinking of making this my new hunting/hiking companion

Thoughts on this specific knife?

5160 is decent steel comparable to 1060 with chromium and silicone added. As much as I am a fan of the late Ron Hood and agree with a lot of his core principals the shape of the handle is not blowing my skirt up.

The partial forefinger grove the slight heel drop the curve along the front and back toward the butt.

Does such a design pose any advantage or utility? Or is it more so for aesthetics?

I'm being anal because it's a pricey knife and for anyone to drop well over $100 on a knife should be anal lol

Others will offer their own take on this how I view it it is made for holding the blade a certain way with a few specific grasps for comfort and for stability. And for some it looks cool.

My use and applications for a knife will probably differ from most but I tend to use a reverse a chest leaver and even a gypsy grasp when I use a knife so I am persnickety (read as giant pain in the ass) when it comes to handles.

In my opinion the only person who can tell you what knife will work and be good for you is you. If you do get that knife use it if you do not care for it you can resell it and get something else.
