General societal collapse. Just a pantry full of nonperishables and a couple cases of ammo. Plus my regular /out/ gear. It's not really prepping, but I'd say I'm generally "prepared."

I just started stocking up last month. I have a few cases of water and some non perishables stored up. Working on some getting registered for a firearm as well since all I have is a crossbow.
Im just preparing for rising prices in produce and foods really and the inevitable rioting that'll happen along with it.

I mostly prepare for lay off/unemployment. I bought land and raise some food. I save as much money as I can. Surviving up to a month without electricity in the event of a natural distaster such as a hurricane.

Try reddit or some youtube channel like canadian prepper.

Imo there are two type of prepper:
- the bunker type: stocking a lot of goods and sheltering home with weapons, fondation and trapp.

- the babushka type: homestead, growing food and low tech.

Personnaly i live in city so i only learn about survivalism and train. In case shtf i'll bug out if necessary because in my case the little emergency is flooding, the big one is snow that last more than 3weeks (i live in france you probably heard what happen when it snowed for only one day)

I dont believe in my survival in case of nuclear war neither in case of pandemic.

I recently started thinking about this. Unfortunately I live in LA county on the coast so I'm betting if I want to go anywhere by land it woud be impossible. I'm bound to the coast as I drive boats for a living but I'm thinking my best bet would be to bug out on my sailboat and head north. Hardly anybody owns a boat and even fewer own a boat with any sort of long range endurance. My only concern is eventually moving back to land.

It could perhaps be something less immediately fatal but still harmful. Maybe radioactive dust that won't kill you if you breathe in like 4 or 5 breaths but it's not a good idea to be breathing it all day long. It could just be something irritating in the air like ash or something just like how a woodworker wouldn't die from spending a day in the shop but they wear masks to stop the cumulative effect. If you want to LARP less you could just get one of those dust masks the Japs use and call it a day but your eyes would still get gunked up with stuff.

Rule 1 of Prepping: Be where you need to be before SHTF.
Rule 2 of Prepping: Be interconnected with your local community, friends, & family and have a plan together.

Everything else is nitpicking micromanagement. Running away shouldn't be a 1st option. That means don't live in shitty places where something big can wreck your shit in the first place; barring shit like an asteroid strike.

If you flew off before things happened, yes. But, if the airport is on fire, under water, or whatever then a lot of good that will do you. Be where you need to be before SHTF. If that isn't where you are sitting right now then you may have a shit load of problems ahead of you in a SHTF situation.

bushfires, unemployment and homelessness mostly.

for bushfires, you can either run, shelter or fight the bushfire.

The main way I prepare for bushfires has been by reading books on the subject to give me the knowledge of what to do/what the warning signs are ahead of time.

.powers out
.no running water
.smoke
.reports on battery operated radio
.temp
.humidity
.wind speed/pattern
.prevailing wind (here it's nw to se)
.check bushfire updates via phone (if phone towers working
.try to avoid house on total fire ban days/days with high chance of bushfire (ounce of prevention=pound of cure)

that's pretty much if for run. for sheltering i'd:

.move away gas tanks on nsw side of house.
.close windows.
.cover/put away anything flammable inside the house.
.check/clear out roof space.
.set up refuge room in bathroom/laundryroom
.fill up tub with water (and all other sinks.)
.set up hose and buckets in laundry room
.wear/prep firefighting/protection gear (drill cotton work pants, wet bandana/mask, wool blanket. etc.
.clear dead leave/debris, or compact and move them to se side of house.
.move stuff off porch.
.have bottle water ready.

for fighting the fire i'd:

.go around inside of house to make sure nothing catches alight

.maybe go outside to put out certain fires around the house

after fire has past, go out and put out spot fires wherever I see them.

despite popular opinion no type of bushfire plan is inherrently better than any other, ideally you should have a plan to run,shelter or fight depending on what's most practical for you, irrespective of what you choose, you need a plan, thinking, "if a bushfire comes, i'll run away" isn't a fucking plan.

A lot of people could have saved their homes if they would have bothered to educate themselves on the reality of bushfires, people say it doesn't matter about the house, but it matters after.

and as for homelesness, having a bicycle, camping gear and living near a national park that's right next to a town helps, I can also busk for money if I was ever in such a situation, and i know where to go for things like food and charity and shit like that. (salvation army, saint vincent depaul, etc.)

Longest power outage was 9 days, 14 days no cable/phone. Had to chainsaw out of my neighborhood and keep the wood stove going. The town just east of me regularly gets isolated by floods and they have to helicopter supplies in for the city boys that move out there.
