Just picked up one of pic related after relying on a roll up foam pad all year. Is it worth buying one of those inflator pumps or (((condensation))) from using your breath just a meme to part me from my jewgold?

I mean if you can get a sleeping mat that works with some kind of drybag system (fill drybag with air, force it into the sleeping pad) it's pretty neat and lightweight.

Foam: Always works, doesn't need inflating, doesn't get a hole & need to be patched, and it is ready to go at any time.

Inflatable: Is never ready until after you blow it up, gets holes from time to time that need patched. If you don't blow it up yourself you'll need a pump, which can also break, and takes up more space & with extra weight.

I way prefer self inflating mats, easier to blow up and they have foam in them so if you get a puncture it's still keeping you warm. Plus they are way thinner, I tend to roll off the thicker inflatable mats. The nemo zor is a great self inflating mat.
Pic is the ccf mat I use for three seasons.

Unless you’re homeless you’ve got no reason to buy a foam pad. Uncomfortable as fuck and takes up 5x more room than an inflatable.

Switched to an inflatable after I started sleeping in the woods in a civilian context, the foam ones work but the inflatable ones are much more comfortable

Popped an inflatable z-lite from frozen condensation in -19f weather in Washington state. Had a backup foam mat so it wasn't the end of the world, but dry bag inflater is worth it.

Seconding this. Inflatable pads are so much more comfortable than foams ones it's not even a contest. Unless you're sleeping in a desert where there's a shit ton of thorns and spikes everywhere, choosing a foam pad is objectively a sub-par decision.

Moisture will still get in whether you inflate from lungs or atmosphere. Comes down to proper long term storage. For my self inflating thermarest, this means unrolled/unfolded with valve wide open. Always carry a patch kit, even a tiny hole can be the difference between a comfy night and NOW I'M LYING ON THE COLD HARD GROUND. Use your pad to paddle around on a lake, it's fun. Don't use your pad as a sled.
