I've never had any kind of matches really be bad on me, so those are probably fine. I almost always carry a lighter, some matches, and a fire steel in case something fails for whatever reason.

I have a box on my "fire kit" they work well if you are trying to light damp kindling. Though nothing beats a good lighter, ferro rod and some Denatured Alcohol Gel.

Any of you guys ever use a fire piston? Simple principle if you've had first semester college chemistry: If the number of air molecules stays the same and the volume decreases rapidly the pressure and temperature will increase rapidly. Just wondering how well they work in the real world. Pic related.

This is what I carry and I've never not been able to light a fire, albeit you do have to put a lot more effort into keeping a fire going when it's actively raining. You don't need stormproof matches. Just keep whatever matches you like in a waterproof container. Take a back-up fire source if you're concerned about reliability.
