Hey guys, I'm interested in backpacking as a new hobby.


Here's a rough draft check list for absolute basics that I feel are necessary:

Backpack

Solo tent

Sleeping bag

Cook sack (pans, stove, food)


I'd love to hear your opinions and general advice on getting started. I have a friend who's already into backpacking and I am asking him for advice as well, but second opinions never hurt anyone.


I'd also appreciate if you recommend brands, sizes, etc, for each on the list. I'm not asking you to do my research, because I have products picked out, but I want to hear what experienced peopled have to say.
