Hey, /out/ i have a question for all the small game hunters out there.

How come when you shoot an animal, they flip the fuck out at the moment of/after death?

is it just death throes?

is it just their muscles freaking out because they are dieing?

just wondering since i just shot a racoon and it looked like pic related after being shot. and the second it stopped it was dead..

the nervous system continues to fire due to stored chemical electrical potential between the synapse. The central nervous system causes the body to move even after the brain is shut down and the heart is not beating. The system is still shooting signals up and down the body, causing limbs or the head to twitch sleep run or kick.

Shot placement and caliber will help eliminate some of the death spasms but it is akin to hogs the brain is small and you did not place the shot correctly it sounds like.

I do not need to get morbid on you but it happens they can drop straight down, get a step, get up and head for brush, flop like a fish out of water, and run into a tree headfirst. Most of the above were improperly placed shots.

Its kinda sick, but whenever I go hunting and the an animal go into thrashing mode I start laughing hysterically. I just find it hilarious

I was out hunting rabbits on a friend's property years ago, since they were eating all the plants he had in his little self-sufficiency garden thing.

I managed to catch one in the neck while it was running, and instead of dropping or flailing, it continued to run. It made a huge loop and ended up hitting the tire of my parked truck before it finally stopped.

My shot managed to break through it's spine, so I'm not sure how it kept running.
Tl;dr: animals are fucking weird.

Isn't that the truth. Fillet a pike and its fillets will move if you run your hands down them.

I've seen catfish swim off after being filleted. Ever since I saw my bro in law do this I have always made sure my fish are dead before fillet.
