I have a question. What state in the US has cold (snow) and dry (not humid) weather with a lot of woods?

surprisingly, eastern kansas actually has quite a bit of trees and it gets to both extremes here. snow in the winter, 104 in the summer. it's actually really nice and you aren't far from missouri, arkansas, etc for more camping as well

Literally go by elevation in any of the mountain states, and you have exactly what you described. If in southern mountain states aim for 6,500-8,000 ft, if in western Montana you only need 2,500 ft elevation for the desired climate.

Also forgot to mention, I've lived here at this elevation for 5 years and the mountains have gotten blanketed with snow every single winter down to about 4,000 ft, usually in January and it lasts for several weeks after each snow storm. I've gotten snow at my house (3,500 ft) for 3 out of those 5 winters, usually only 1-2 inches at this elevation.

German here, I'm considering migrating to the states once I finish my degree. What are some good /out/ approved places to live? Good weather (rain and comfy winters are ok), good cost of living, maybe some land to get something small started. Asking here and not on other boards because you guys seem more chill

Anything in between the Rockies and Sierra Nevadas is going to be dry, and anything actually in the mountains will be cold with some snowfall. Much of this land also is forested, so that'll give you some idea of where a good spot to go is.

If you really really like snow come to Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I won't lie its humid as fuck in the summer time. But in the cities near the great lakes like Marquette, Escanaba, and Baraga, you'll experience snowstorms consisting of at least 2 feet a few times a year, at least one foot maybe 6 times a year, and more than 6 inches every other week. Most of the time its nice fluffy as fuck lake effect snow.

If you're talking the Kansas City area, bruh I'm a native and it's /out/ purgatory. There are parks you can go to, sure, but any significant swaths of public land are 4+ hours away in southern Missouri. I guess if you lived in the southeastern corner of Kansas it would be all right, but KC is awful if you like anything nature. Much rather live in Springfield or Branson or Mountain Home, somewhere in the Ozarks.

Northern and southern midwest. So Great Lakes region or the Ozarks. That's where you'd find cheaper /out/ land and low cost of living. Of course I assume you can get it much cheaper in desert states like Arizona and Nevada if you want to live in a wasteland. Check out Carson City, Nevada. You've got the desert, mountains, woods, Lake Tahoe, and all of northern California within a four hour drive, and you don't have to actually live in California with retardedly expensive everything. It's a pretty prime location to /out/ from. You've also got Reno just up the highway.

Ozarks have brutal summers and Great Lakes have brutal winters, so that's why they're not in as much demand. If you can stomach those, they're great for outdoorsmen.
