nylon does absorb a pretty significant amount of water. technically, cotton fibers can absorb a lot more, but practice is way different. polyester absorbs literally 0 water, yet a softshell made out of polyester can hold plenty of water. i guess water can just lay around in the structure of the fabric instead of being absorbed into each fiber. based on my experience, a 50/50 nyco dries maybe 20% faster than a 100% cotton uniform of the same weight.
reducing the garment weight reduces the drying time way more proportionally, IMO, but most NYCO uniforms i've tried just aren't much lighter than gorkas
