Sure, but I can enjoy hiking and birdwatching on Friday, swimming and mushroom picking on Saturday, and hunting and fishing on Sunday. Taking life is just one of many ways to enjoy and respect the bounty of the land. Aldo Leopold had a lot of great shit to say about the matter. It's good of you to seek to minimize the harm you cause, but I can find nothing unethical about killing wild animals, provided it's done in a thoughtful manner.

The Jain "skyclad" monks wear no clothing at all, so tiny creatures aren't killed in the folds of fabric. They carry a feather broom (feathers that are shed by the bird) which is used to sweep small, sometimes not very visible insects and other tiny bugs out of the way as they walk, and then they sweep off the area they are going to sit, so as to not crush any bugs. They only eat the fruit, seeds and leaves of plants, because harvesting these does not kill the plant, usually. They don't eat root vegetables, because that kills the plant. (Pic related.)

There is nothing that you do on this earth that does not involve murdering some creature that gets in the way. If you eat only vegetable matter, the farmer drives his equipment on the ground and kills things. He might shoot or poison pests of the animal kind. When you fill up your tank with gas to drive to the trailhead, you are supporting murderous regimes that supply the product to your country, and many die to support the price of crude oil.

Tl;dr: If you don't want to kill any more animals, kill yourself.

I'm not a vegan myself but I have many black, gay, and vegan friends (many) and I think that some vegans would be concerned more than others. Since the main tenets of veganity (as far as I understand anyway) are against exploitation, mass suffering, and environmentalism, the relatively minor non-exploitative eradication of crop-destroying bugs and furry pesties is of lesser negative impact and therefore of lesser concern. I suppose though, it's clear that the use of pesticide free/organic farming is preferred by vegans as well. But that's just what I gather from my many vegan friends I guess. I also do have black and gay friends btw and one of them is both.

Because the industrial farming necessary to produce an equivalent nutritional value to 1kg of beef (including vitamins and minerals, not just calories) destroys far more habitat and creates far more by-kill than raising that 1kg of beef.

When comparing alternate forms of animal protein such as chicken and fish the gap grows even larger.

And the "organic" and "locally sourced/farmers market" movements exacerbate the gap by making vegetables even less efficient to grow, even if they're slightly better for the environment as a whole.

75%+ of all beef in the world is not grain fed. 80%+ of that is free range in places like the American west, Argentina, the Scottish highlands, and other places where industrial farming is impractical.

Mutton is 95%+ free range, and from the same regions.

Wild animals do MUCH better coexisting in these herds than they do with industrial cropland SPECIFICALLY because of the much lower human alteration of these lands. By-kill is extremely low.
