Ive got into outdoor shit after/during my time in various militaries, always just wore tall combat boots and said "fuck it, thisll do," I still have my old FFL Rangers (just wear as casual boots) and USMC Danners (work, outdoor, hiking/camping/hunting boot), but I started considering actually buying dedicated /out/ boots that fit my needs as a civilian better (dont need to sprint across shitty terrain carrying another man om my back, do need comfort, support, and moisture control for long hikes/camps/hunts etc). I moved to Alaska and wear pic related during winter (very warm with good wool socks and 7mm felted wool insole added in inner boot,) havent had cold feet at all, surprisingly light, good moisture management, overall stellar boot for -50F and the like, gone hiking, ice fishing (GREAT ice tread, not as good as moose trax or similar, but as stand alone tread, best Ive used yet), snow shoeing, snowmachining, etc, havent really used for hours and hours of standing still (like you might do while hunting) but to be fair, in the winter here, boots/outdoor footwear are for getting from point A to point B, as youre gonna be focused on spending least amount of time outdoors as possible. Anyway, I got good winter boots, but havent gotten any good summer/spring/fall boots yet, just been using old combats. Prefer something good for wet/damp environment, but not totally waterproof, so I can hike/run/go camp without having soaked socks.
Boots in pic are "Vasque Lost 40"
Any suggestions?
