How do I get into the mountainman or longhunter community? I'm interested in the historical reenaction aspect and want to learn wilderness skills from the 1700s-1800s.

Does anyone here do this stuff or know of some resources that could help me tie in with dudes from my state?

I'm in western Oregon if that helps.

Look into the jas townsent youtube, they have a few videos regarding the historical reenactment side of things plus theyre just a great fucking resource for fun history from the time preiod.

There used to be a pretty decent youtube community for it but things have kinda faded recently. People like dave canterbury, snowwalker bushcraft and the like are a pretty solid resource for learning, look up things like school of the longhunter.

Read writing from the period, theres plenty of recorded history from people who actually lived that life, nesmuk and kephart are two names that spring to mind.

Thats pretty much all shit you can do from home, put in the research, put in some time to learn the skills and then actually get out there and find a community to hang out in

Look for local “national muzzle loading rifle association”(NMLRA) events.
Look for Trades fairs or reenactments.
Alot of people at those teach olde tyme skills.
