Getting ready for a western hunt that will require some long-distance glassing-- binoculars, spotting scope, etc.

What are some good rules of thumbs for optics? I'm looking for a decent entry-level item at an affordable price. Any recommendations appreciated

what distances are you planning on glassing?
what distances are you planning on shooting/hunting from?

also a good rule of thumb for optics is dont skimp.

you can get an entry level set of optics for 200-300 dollars

Basically if you want entry level vortex is a good place to start or maybe some of the Leopold models also if you wish to just cut out the middle man sawrowski just came out with a rifle optic with a masive range in variable zoom from like 2.6 to like 27 or something and you could honestly Jerry rig that into ither a shooting or spotting situation but would cost the price difference in both

Just go on aliexpress and get yourself a $2 10x42 monocular. The chinks have mastered it. Anyone buying bushnell/vortex/zeiss is a straight up retard

As somone that has owned 300$ binos and 3500$ binos, the latter isnt 10 times better. Maybe 20-30% better.

Vortex make great entry binos for a great price.
DONT buy a bino/range finder combo. Range finders are getting better and better for cheaper and cheaper. Dont lock yourself into it with it built in to a bino.

Vortex still uses glass that comes from other countries.
Their Razor line is Japanese glass in particular.

If looking for a spotter, the last gen models of Vortex spotters are all on huge sales due to the 2018 models being out.

I purchased some minox bf 10x42, they were on special for $300 kiwibux, down from $450. Theyre china made, but still came with a german quality control cert, so that was cool . I think as probably an "entry level" binocular they will be more than capable for what i need them for. (Hunting) id be too shit scared to take out a big bad pair of swaroski ones and fumble $3000 worth of bino off a cliff, haha. Maybe if i was using binos for a less rough and tumble operation, id probably invest more, but these ones should be better than my old hamdmedown mamiya 7x50s hahaha

Are binoculars really worth the extra weight compared to a monocular?
I was thinking of getting one or just a rifle scope to use as a monocular..
I always seem to have troubles getting a clean detaile picture out lf binos and often end up closing one eye.

Don't need a spotting scope, only need one of them if you are judging trophy quality, which you won't be in all likelihood.

Do get a tripod and a bino adapter from outdoorsmen.

I didn't assume you guys hunt with butt buddy's I've always done 3-4 day trips by myself in northern NM and Montana but I don't see why you would be pointing your rifle at another hunter unless your buddy can't tell you where he is going to flush elk/sheep/deer/bear which I really doubt alot of you know how to do
