e first thing to know about mushrooms... psilocybin and psilocin... not commonly tested for in the standard drug test. The basic drug test,... checks for 5 types of substances
Cannabinoids (marijuana, hash)
Cocaine (cocaine, crack, benzoylecognine)
Amphetamines (amphetamines, methamphetamines, speed)
Opiates (heroin, opium, codeine, morphine)
Phencyclidine (PCP)
Even the extended employment drug tests used by most companies do not test for the presence of psilocybin or psilocin.
It is...possible ...detect with a drug test...[e.g.] during criminal probation... they are less standard, these tests are more expensive comprehensive drug tests ... used ... specific reason to believe that... use is an issue ...generally mushroom use does not... test positive on...tests
Once ingested, most of the psilocybin is converted... Most of the psilocin is then excreted within the first 8 hours...but portions remain ... for several weeks.
Following is a description of what to expect from the standard tests.
The NIDA 5
Federal government guidelines (by NIDA-The National Institute on Drug Abuse and SAMHSA-The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) require that companies which use commercial class drivers licenses for employees must have a testing system in place. Among other things, this required testing program must test for 5 specific categories of drugs (sometimes referred to as the "NIDA 5"). Because of this federal requirement, most drug testing companies offer a basic drug test which checks for drugs in these 5 common categories. Click on the substance name for a description of the laboratory method for detecting the substance.
