just got my bg ultimate serrated knife in the mail, anyone have any experience with it?

i know the firestarter is loose in the sheath but pretty much no other knowledge of it.

I've had mine about a year and a half. It was a gift from an old girlfriend. Thought it was "gimmicky" but after using it for a while its really not terrible. I really tried to rag the hell out of it because I'm no longer with her and couldn't care less what happened to it. Only complaint I have it that it doesn't take an edge that well, but it is a bargain knife so I can't really expect much. The front plastic piece that holds the handle in also broke but it doesn't hurt the function of it. I also removed the rape whistle.

I really should save this post, I'm getting tired of re typing it.

Why this knife? You could have gotten better for the same price. Gerber quality really went down, it's pretty much a brand to avoid now.

Also why the serrated blade? Not that I am against it, I have all my knives with serrations, not everyone is a survivalist bushcrafter after all. But then, this knife barely has a proper blade, it's like a saw would have been a better deal.

I wouldn't say I have experience with survival knifes. My opinion would be to stay away from serrated blades because in the field they can be difficult o sharpen. I told myself if I can hang on to this Beat Grylls knife ill get myself an Essee in 6 or so months. If you don't spend alot of time innawoods that knife with work just fine for ya.

I don't go into the woods and play "survival". I hunt and do things in the woods alot but don't consider that criteria for survival knife knowledge.

pretty much new to the game and i saw it and it looked cool so i got it. looked up some reviews and it seemed cheap and decent so i thought id buy it.

got it for $60 total so its not like its a big dent in my wallet.

curious about the best knives for survival though, as I know clearly this is not the best

When you're in the mood to spend a bit more, get an Ahti leuku from Ragnar's Ragweed Forge. Ahti knows how to make a knife and the 5 3/4" model is perfect for innawoods/survival/bushcraft.

Knifecenter has some good deals occasionally. Even my local Cabela's has SealPups for <60 usd.

I've never had issue with mine falling out. I had it in my pack every time I went innaswamp for like 5 months straight. I wasn't wearing it on my belt so that ma be why. If its an issue put the fire starter rod in the back pocket of the sheath or in your pocket.

I did however have mine bend. I really don't care for reading everyone's perceived idea of how something sucks when they have absolutely no first hand experience with it. So I tend not to listen to them.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT USE THE SHARPENER ON THE BACK IF YOU DON'T WANT TO FUCKING DESTROY THAT NICE GREY FINISH.

Just buy an easy sharpener (not the BG one, it sucks dicks) and use that.

Otherwise, enjoy your knife. It's great! I take mine with me on almost every /out/ing.

Also, so you know, you can take apart the whistle to add longer paracord so you have a wrist-wrap. Pic related. It's a massive pain in the ass though. I recommend you take some of the paracord strands out or you won't be getting it through the little hole. You can see in my image how much trouble I had with that.

i had the pocket knife and it wouldn't hold an edge for shit, i use knives allot at work and ended up returning it.

if you're looking for a folder look at a blur, if your cheap get the drone, i've had nothing but great CS with kershaw and spiderco and swear by them even though prices may seem up there compared to gerber.

the few full tang knives i own were hand made by a guy in my town, once i litterally tried to break for a few days(ran it over with a bobcat on concrete) and only the wooden handle split lol.
