Want to buy one to see what's lurking in my woods. Anyone have any success with these?
Could I get by with a cheap $70 one?

I bought a cheep one to catch some trespassers. It was like $40 at Walmart but still is quite good. The only real problem with is the field of fiew, when you get the camera far back enough to actually capture the whole person the IR sensor is too far away to reliably trigger. For $70 you'll probably do a bit better because mine was super cheap. Fun little thing to play around with though!

I'd spend a lot of time testing it out, rather than set it and forget it. Mine always need some testing to get ok results.

I have that exact game cam.
Works well. I haven't tried the video yet.
Be sure to strap it to a SOLID tree- any motion and it will take random pics.
Day pics are gorgeous, night pics can be fuzzy.
It doesn't do well with moisture on the lense picture wise.
But I've had it for a couple years.
Great on battery life, made it through two hurricanes.

I think that's the new I have, it was $40 or $50, batteries last a long time. The other posters are right about mounting it solidly and without leaves that could blow around in front, it sensitive. Pic related, gives date, time, moon phase info. I don't like the watermark but whatever, it does the job.

I have that exact one, it's very good. I recommend putting it near sources of water, especially once winter comes, any form of liquid water at all will attract animals.
