>>1369201>doesn't know what profit itIf you can step out of the mindset of thinking everything is run as a business, you'll see that even "non-profit" organizations have excess money that gets channeled to other avenues within the company, as well as to keep up with inflation. I'm sure you'd agree that a student taking out 30k in loans to get a job that pays below say 15 an hour is pointless, but you're suggesting the government do roughly the same thing in terms of running programs to manage ecosystems, as well as alleviating more human issues, so they don't collapse due to the two problems I linked. I'm sure you'd also agree that people living paycheck to paycheck without saving money is equally pointless. It's easy to harp on the negative things the government does, but you give them absolutely no credit for the roads you drive on, the relatively well maintained public utilities you use such as water and electricty, or the gamelands set aside so everyone can enjoy nature.
As for my criticism of the shooting ranges, it was a hyperbole. They're still useable and fine, they even just got renovated at my state. All for $30 a year, while that $30 would get me a month of membership at a private range. If you don't take society seriously, deregulation seems good and "government control" seems bad, but the alternative of people or businesses just doing whatever they want is much worse. It really boils down to whether you view yourself and whatever successes you have as seperate from society, which isn't the case. You would be nothing but an illiterate subsistence farmer without them. You can, and should, argue individual cases of draconian overstep however.
