I failed a hike. My buddy who was hiking with me went to the peak of Cinder cone in Lassen Natl park, but I basically quit 200 feet from the top. Its a depressing feel, especially hiking back down alone and barely breathing

Don't be so hard on yourself, at least you aren't one of those people who set unrealistic hiking/mountaineering goals and then have to be rescued from trail. Just train, get more fit and eventually you'll get better.
