First time wilderness camping

No.1366345 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Okay, this is my first time on /out/ as I spend a majority of my time on /k/, and since cooler weather is rolling in and deer season is coming up, I thought it would be a perfect time to go on a camping trip.
I live in central VA and I plan on driving out to George Washington and Jefferson national forests since they let you set up camp wherever you want so long as it's far enough away from recreational ares and you don't burn the forest down.
I haven't truly been in the outdoors for over 5 years, and even then I was a young kid and my parents did most of the work.
I wanna try to go with some old friends and maybe convince my dad to go with us.
I'd like to find a place that has primitive cabins (I.e just a shack with windows and a door and no electricity) because tenting sucks ass and I have a fear of having a bear or skinwalker come up and try to get a bit of that sweet sweet man booty. Yeah I'm a pussy I know.
I'll probably just bring the bare minimum like water and some vegetables for making stew since I plan on shooting something for my dinner like a rabbit.
a 30-30 lever action, but I'll try to get a .22 seeing as a .30cal would blow a rabbit to pieces.
I'll of course bring essentials like water, bedding, ammo, some canned food, fire and cooking gear, axe, knife, first aid, etc.
But I just wanted to ask some /out/ veterans what else I should bring along, some tips and tricks so I don't die, and just see what you all think of my plan.
