Anyone here have an /out/ related job? I’m a biology student close to graduating but I want to create my own opportunities in the meantime.

I was going to forage fungi as mycology is my area but my state doesn’t allow selling foraged fungi.

No pre reqs just some references helps if you have had a job before.
No pay it is volunteer work but if you are there for 6 months to a year and you are a good worker they will 100% hire you for positions in the game and fish or Forrest service because the higher ups genrally run or have alot of connections to the employment of parks service stuff ect. Honestly light trail work picking up trash running info booths for events

Depends on the state, I think. I live in NY so I need to get a degree, and/or have military experience or experience with forestry. Other states, I would definitely recommend volunteering and getting seasonal jobs with the forest service, or a local park service. Also, criminal justice or experience in law enforcement will probably help, so if you’ve ever done ROTC or an explorer program, that would probably help.

i already have a bachelors but i just found out about being a conservation scientist/forester for the state. and ive been looking into that. all i know is that it helps to take some short courses that teach forestry and then sign up for the training program.

I work for a company that grows a lot of salmon and whitefish here in Northern Europe. I'm an electrician (and automation handyman). Boating skills needed, surface diving sometimes needed, an ability to carefully listen to weather reports definitely needed. To remember to charge cellphone etc batteries and to reserve enough cigarettes with an extra lighter before going out absolutely definitely needed.

Being generally calm and careful character type pays off with less harm and damage done to yourself and others, and to the equipment. You are not getting help that quickly at sea regardless of medevac chopper station knowing already where we locate. The fish bags are spread out over a quite a wide area and there are a lot of them.

GIS is really fun to work with. State and local governments use GIS for conservation and all kinds of stuff. You may get /out/ if you are installing or checking on integrated GIS systems.
Personally I always wanted a job mixing archaeology and GIS.

I knew a guy back in uni working for a robotics company that used computer vision to harvest strawberries. I knew another who was a lidar engineer who mapped geographical data. Maybe you could explore something like that with your skills?

Work on a dry stock farm much of my time at the moment is taken up rearing calves. Theres also sheep and lambs which need rounding up for shearing and for sale to meet contracts from time to time. Always maintenance to get done aside from working with the animals, lot of different outdoors work.

Help me /out/ bros- how the fuck do I get an outdoors jobs with no relevant experience/ and an unrelated degree? I've done what many anons here have, but am looking for the ocean change. I am really stuck at for what to do and Australia doesn't seem to have many trainee/apprenticeships for outdoor jobs.
Also, help me apply for a Ranger job with a local council. How would I make myself sound good with no experience?

Archaeology student here.
Fieldwork always includes some hiking, surveying and such and there are digs pf course. It can be anywhere, from open fields, to islands and mountains. Terrain is kinda rough where I live so I first started visiting this board for equipment but I really wanna start /outing now.

Lol it’s a total meme. But no i just learned it for research application since i have to make sense of a lot of data in certain situations. The stuff is easy to learn if you actually know about statistics and college math. I am a prospector

I spend 90% of my summer wandering around outdoors on peoples mining claims either showing the owners where to dig or doing contract work digging test holes. Its a really fun job, lots of hard work but the rewards can be staggering if you know what your doing.

Where do you prospect? I used to do panning in an around Williams Lake/Quesnel in BC, never found anything substantial, but occasionally people can pan nuggets out of old workings.

All the office guys on this board, I feel you bros. I'd have said try to find something to do with conservation sciences, geological collection data, they spend a lot of time outside, whatever really.

As for the Aussie brah, you want to work out, get a job on a ranch. You're always out.

Working at a late medieval site right now, excavating a templar fortress/church. It's great, but finds are really dependent on what period are you digging. 99% of the time you'll be digging out a lot of bones and ceramics, cooler finds being more rare. Though graves can be especially interesting.

Pretty intense, though that's mostly prehistory, especially neolithic and copper age studies. Antiquity is easier since there are a lot of trusted sources. Early and late medieval are also pretty cool, especially the migration period.
