>>1371668 And other people on the street. The acting at 42:45 is justified cause he has something to be upset about, but everyone who's off heroin is constantly in that mood. It destroys your sense of empathy, recovered addicts are still assholes for the rest of their lives. So when you're on the street literally nobody has a problem with stealing your shit, and of course your shit's gonna get stolen.
There's a large student population at least since we're poor too. I was at the food bank at my school and was talking with this chick in a wheelchair, she lives in a van with her boyfriend (THANK GOD FOR HER) and had to poop in a church parking lot the night before. We were sharing van bathroom tips and laughing, but the fact without her partner she'd have to poop in a church parking lot alone, in her wheelchair. Without mine I'd be... who knows where. Probably dead.
I'm not concerned with the sentiment "we should just let them die off in the winter" because honestly, if I couldn't hack it, that's a fair way to go. The tangentially related "why not apply yourself and not be homeless" is just ignorant as fuck though. This is probably all staged in the video, but even until the end he had friends, cameramen, a home to go back to. Why live without those things? Why make a gargantuan effort to do something that a pair of healthy, sober, able-bodied persons were barely able to pull off themselves? I guarantee that anyone who thinks that homeless life is easy or not as soul crushing as, say, losing your mom and getting the house taken away (hint: most people end up on the street due to tragedy AND have to come to terms with that on top of the daily struggle) has never been homeless with nowhere to turn.
I fucking hate bums, they're violent and alarming and poop in public, but it CANNOT be easy to live with being the guy on the corner that yells at people.
