Archery season starts this Saturday where I live. Anybody got a spot picked out for their first day? Any pre-hunt traditions you are partaking in? Pic is my neighbor's personal pre-game

Hell most of our bucks are still in velvet

And not really a "tradition" but I usually spend the evening prior to the first hunt cleaning and lubing all my bass fishing gear so I can put it up for the winter.

Nothing, until you're at least consistently hitting yellow on a target at 40 metres.

A 40lb bow is at the very minimum in most places for taking medium size game, but I would recommend it only for small game.

This is my first year hunting. Got super into archery last year, even started working part time at a bow shop to learn all that I can about working on bows. Got my Mathews Triax all set up and ready to go.
If I can get a deer within 40yds I can hit that in my sleep, hard part now is getting the deer to show up.
Any other first timers going at it this year, or maybe anyone got any tips/advice?

So nervous for tomorrow.

You can kill anything with a 40lbs bow. You just need to anticipate how they are going to dodge. Faster bows just means there's less reaction time for the deer to dodge. Penetration is still quite fine for 40lbs draw weight. Hunters that don't take dodging into account don't get deer and blame the problem on their equipment. It is the same as leading a running target.

Except in the ~20 states that have a 45lb draw legal minimum.

And no they absolutely do not have "quite fine" penetration even with a narrow diameter cut-on-contact broadhead. It is barely sufficient for small whitetail assuming you don't hit bone and absolutely not sufficient for large whitetail, elk, caribou, or moose.

Laws have nothing to do with ability. Also, you can kill black bear with a fucking tiny ass blowgun hunting dart. Not that it matters since 40lbs draw weight kills deer dead every time. Unless of course you have shit aim then it won't matter what you use.
