don't worry about all that. I'm not sure what kind of bike you've got but if it's a road then just use it for short trips to places and build up to longer rides for fun. Mountain bikes are awesome for going innawoods and generally everywhere. Knowing how to change a flat and regularly oiling your chains are the two bike care essentials, everything else just comes with experience. I considering biking to be a pretty solitary sport anyways so being self-reliant is important.

I guess I feel sorry for you kinda op. anyways there is no replacement for time in the saddle. you wanna ride better or faster or meet more bike people or whatever, just ride more. there are local clubs in most areas that have rides for new people. beware the local bike shops, most of them are just trying to sell you shit. also look up if there are any bike kitchens in your town, they will be able to help you with maintenance. Otherwise there is always sheldon brown and /n/

Well if you ride for more than 30 miles which I regularly do then you need biking specific shorts at least. Otherwise you will get butthurt, literally.

Besides that, wind resistance is very important for the speed and that is why they use spandex. But it is not pretty.

Used to mountainbike before it got popular and full of racers. Then it was fixed-gear before the hipsters discovered it and thought they invented it. Then it was cyclocross but that's getting popular too (but hopefully the mud and requirement of effort will keep the hipsters away). Now I don't think there is one, if there is it's probably gravel road riding. There are non douchey people in most scenes but stay away from road racers and commuters on Dutch bikes.

If I want to meet chill friendly people I go to running races though.

I never took the training wheels off of my bike, I was just too scared. Then the scooter fad hit and I got myself a Razor, I became proficient at riding that then returned to the bike a pro.

Kids laughed at me for learning so late, but better late than never.
