I use my regular cheap ass firefighter issue rectangular 1 liter bottles. They pack very efficiently and the plastic-y taste is great. If you drop them on hard surfaces though, the bottle cap shatters as it is very brittle

I have the arctic zone 1 gallon thermos.
the outdoor products waist pack 2*20 oz.
stainless steel army canteen 1 quart.

carrying all three would be pretty comfortable I think.

so that is 1.55 gallons. at 4 liters a day I could last in the sahara for 6 days according to sources close to the matter. kek

Normal water bottle from whatever gas station is on the way to where I'm going. I pop my paracord bottle sling on it and when it's empty my Sawyer mini screws right on top and i can fill up anywhere there's freshwater. On long hikes, I use a $10 camel pack type system with my Sawyer inline on the drinking hose.

Honestly, you can get a full aluminum mess kit for $5 from Coleman that weighs less than dedicated water bottles, and you can take just the pot and lid from the kit to make it lighter, carry the smart water bottle and still have something to boil water with the net weight still being lower than any other metal water bottle.

But recently I bought a chute water bottle from camelbak and I'm loving it.
It was cheaper than a nalgene, and with wide and small mouth.
Very convenient.

Don't have a scale handy but just the pot and lid is probably around 113g. The whole kit is 340g, and that's a 7" frying pan, 16oz pot with lid and handle, 8oz coffee cup, and 6" deep dish plate. Pic related. Everything fits inside the plate, then you put the frying pan on top upside down, and the pan handle swings around and locks onto the plate so it takes up hardly any space.

Why do people do this? The plastic is made at the absolute lowest cost so you have zero idea how the bottles were made and stored prior to being delivered to the store.

I worked in the vending industry for a couple of years and I will never buy liquids stored in plastic.

Our warehouse was nice but let a ton of light in, and during the summer it would get into the mid to high 90s inside the warehouse, the bottles were definitely leeching into the liquid. They were always delivered in a hot ass box truck too.

Do yourself the favor and stop using these shit and go with anything else than one use plastic bottles

I've had the orange one in the front with the holes in the silicone sleeve and I do not suggest it, I dropped it and it shattered despite the silicone shell. It was nice but still very breakable.

Here's the thing my dude, you do you. Does having that bottle make your trips innawoods more enjoyable? Then fuck everyone else's opinion. If you have the money to buy yourself nice things, that's your choice. Are there cheaper options that do the same thing? Sure. But they haven't been around long enough to prove definitively that they'll last as long. For all you know, the Yeti will last you 15 years, but in the same amount of time you'd go though more knock off bottles than it would cost to buy a Yeti bottle. I guess I'm just old, but "in my day" you bought the big name stuff because of the quality and materials. The cheap stuff that does the exact same thing is cheap because they cut corners and use inferior materials. I have like 20 of the not clear 1 liter nalgene bottles. They are literally the best bottles hands down no contest. I would make everyone drink from them at my house if I could.

I also have a 1 liter single wall steel bottle that I always hike with and keep near me as it is extremely usefull for everything if needed.

But realistically on any hike a 1l opaque nalgene is the best choice.

64oz YETI. If it's just for a day hike it's worth the extra weight for ice cold water. If I'm out backpacking I have three 32oz Nalgenes. I'll always recommend Nalgene, even though they've changed plastics. They may not be able to survive a fall off a building onto concrete anymore, but they can still take a beating in the wilderness.

You're not wrong. There's something about how the interior of a YETI is finished. It's not like cheaper bottles. The finish is almost slick even when dry, and I can tell you this, there is absolutely not metallic tang even after a few days whereas those cheap water bottles start to bleed a noticeably metallic tang. Any reccomendations on flexible bottles like platypus or something?
Normally, I'm a SIGG dude or just reuse some random plastic bottles (no need to keep 10l worth of "/out/"-bottles around just for that few times I go through areas without water), but ever since a hard bottle broke my back, I'm kinda afraid of them when I don't have much else in my backpack besides the bottle.

2 nalgene 500ml bottles. Simple and durable, with the attached cap so you can't lose any parts.

One bottle in each side hip holder. Keeps the weight balanced. Sometimes I'll keep one bottle with straight water and the other with an electrolyte tablet.

Where I hike, water is plentiful and the climate stays relatively humid. 1 liter for the trail is always enough. I'll always chug 2 liters in the morning at camp before heading out for the day. With any travel above 3000m I'll have a daily intake of at least 4 liters.

I have one of these, but I also got some nalgene 32oz bottles that I use when I need bulk water or to pour hot water in as a makeshift bed heater. It's insulated but I got a small coffee pot for boiling and this one's great when you want to take coffee or soup with you when you leave camp.

It’s not lighter than aluminium, it’s just often milled thinner than an equivalent alu because it’s stronger. Pound for pound it’s heavier.

Case in point, I have a very thin 1L energy drink bottle made of alu that I occasionally boil in. It weighs 28g.

If I plan to be away from civilization for any length of time I bring the pathfinder canteen. Honestly the weight of it sucks, but having a large stainless steel canteen with a little stove stand and a cup really hits all the points on my extended stay checklist. I've used nalgene, the silly camelbak nipple thing that gets moldy, army one quarts, two quarts, and so on. My favorite for just having around during the day is this 800ml stainless. I used to keep paracord on the carry handle, should go back to that. Army 2Qt is still GOAT for outdoors though.

Don’t do it anon, you can get the same titanium shit from China/japan/Russia for pennies minus the reddit tax, it’s not as expensive as people make out. Vargo is also v v heavy compared to say Evernew UL and they don’t use highest grade Ti, so they make it thicker walled. I bought the ti Keith Canteen, shit weighs a TONNE!

Yeah man you can find a lot of stainless steel water bottles with that design at places like Good Will and such. A lot of them are promotional items with Logos etched unto them, around 25-27 fluid ounces in capacity. They can be fun to collect to, and have a wide mouth opening that's just the right size unlike the huge openings on widemouth nalgene bottles.
