I haven’t seen any knife threads so lets start one.

What does /out/ think of neck knives?
Been looking at the Eskabar for some time now and it seems like an ok solution for a camp knife with light wood work.
Any neck knives on /out/?

what differentiates a neck knife from anything else?

I've got an opinel no.6 and a grohmann jump knife. like them both.

I have an ESEE Izula II that has served me extremely well. Love it. personally prefer knives on the smaller side as they take up much less space and are more practical for my needs when out and about.

You'll be surprised at how well a good neck knife stays in its kydex sheath. But I have to admit that I never carry my neck knife around my neck. I strapped it to my backpack strap. I don't like it dangling around.

Neck knives are a functional accessory that is just a knife that you can wrap a para-cord grip on the handle that dangles around your neck in a clipped sheath. They are popular because they don't fall into the category if being a lockable knife longer than some odd inches.

Lately i tought about buying a knife for /out, but i got one around 16 years ago from my uncle. I tought its been lost, but i found it. My uncle made it from medical-grade stainless steel (he used to work in this industry). It needs to be sharpen, but looks great. What do you guys think?

Kind of heavy for a neck knife. Don't get me wrong, you can hang it form you neck all day. But when you take it off you feel a great rest.
I made a belt sheat for it, some handles and now it's a great little knife.

Don't get fooled when people refer to knives as "medical-grade" or "surgical-grade" steel as tough. Every kind of steel has advantages and disadvantages. Surgical steels are somewhat soft, meaning that they sharpen easily and to a razor hone, but the are somewhat delicate. By all means, enjoy the knife and care for it; it's a good looking blade. Just treat it carefully. Get some nasty 440C kinda steel if you want a workhorse to beat up, and not care about.
