If you are already a daily runner.... ehhhh, maybe. Never run at all. Oh fuck no. 26 miles is a long long way to run for someone who isnt very conditioned for it

I'm pretty young and I run pretty often, but I can run a marathon without any preparations, and if you can do 10 under an hour-ish you can do a marathon too with maybe 2 weeks worth of (mostly mental) preparations.

I run 5km twice a month but hike a lot, would it be that bad to walk the entire event?

You can run forever basically. Unless you have lived a stagnant lifestyle for decades. The biggest problem you will have are with bones and shin splints. Thats is what will fuck up first. Just go and run 3 miles everyday at 8 min a mile being the goal. Get in tune with your body and see if you feel ready. You should be able too unless you start getting shin splints of major joint pain...

First marathon I ran was with a pack on and a corporal yelling at me to hurry the fuck up and have been on the other side of that scenario since. A lot of it is mental. If you run a little walk a little you should be able to push to the end, count paces or run/walk at alternative power poles to stick to a pace. At that distance you will get in a pace that your heart and lungs can handle but its your feet and legs that are going to start protesting towards the end, you could blister or get pain in knees etc as the muscles start to fail.

Depends on the base level of fitness and the willpower or motivation really. I would say a lot of people would give up part way but a month of hard interval training hill sprints etc could give some huge improvements to the pace of someone who was untrained

Probably if you have super duper mental control but you body will be fucked afterwards due to lack of conditioning, expect an injury and not being able to run afterwards for a few weeks.

I have run a half marathon every weekend for the last 3 months and if I add 5 miles to that I feel it the next day. Sticking to the half I feel fine.

I ran 3-4 miles a day 6 days a week for 5 years before I did anything really long distance. Could do 4 miles in around 26 minutes without killing myself.

Then I got voluntold for a competitive 10-mile run. I was tapped the fuck out by mile 7 and had to walk a bit shortly after.
