Has anybody here ever used their truck bed for camping? Like setting up a basic tent sleeping area in it?

I tried looking online and only saw expensive looking and very well put together camping setups.

I am interested in trying this and was wondering who's done this and if anyone has tips for doing this comfortably and successfully

Most folks I know that do this just keep a truck bed cover on and set up some bedding instead of trying to find a tent/bivvy that fits in there. The bed cover makes it less obvious, too, and these people are also looking to avoid being noticed — especially in urban locations

This. A truck topper is the tits. Though, I really recommend getting plywood, cutting it to fit perfectly on the entire floor then covering that with 3/4" thick wall insulation blue foam board where you sleep then put your bedding on that. The biggest thing is proper venting and parking out of the sun.

I have. My pickup has a cap on it with screened in windows that slide open and a hose that directs the exhaust away from the truck so I can open the rear cab window that leads to the bed and turn on the heat/ac. It's a 96 F-150 with two gas tanks so when I sleep in the bed of my truck, I use the rear tank exclusively for running heat/ac and the front tank for driving that way I can run the truck all night if I have to and not worry about being out of gas in the morning. I only use the bed of my truck for expected camping. I keep a stuff sack behind my seat with a wool blanket, camp pillow, and military 'self inflating' tent pad (doesn't self inflate anymore but takes less than 10 breaths to inflate it)

This more than anything in the entire world. If it doesn't have slide open windows, preferably with screens, then you're going to fucking hate life. Mine is white on a red truck because idgaf, I'd rather reflect the sunlight and stay cool than have it match and look "pretty".

Yeah, white is far better for reducing heat. Paint it black inside and white outside to maximize heat transmission outwardly.
