They look terrible, they bring in garbage and bury it on the property to ruin your watershed with heavy metals, they are really difficult to built due the absurdly high labor needed to build them (rammed earth tires can fuck right off), they are designed incorrectly for what they are meant to do, they are far more expensive than standard housing in every way possible even in long term energy savings, and they are really only meant originally for a very small range of environments.
These are some of the worst of the worst of housing that people still think is a good idea. I urge you to never build one of these. If you really want to make a nice house that can last generations that uses local materials, you can build a cob house. Have a nice stone foundation, thick cob walls, with a wrap around covered porch, and some hammerbeam ceiling in part of it. You can build them pretty much anywhere in any environment.
