I couldn't imagine wearing anything that doesn't let me stomp through a foot of water and ankle-deep mud without worrying about getting wet feet, anymore.

Somehow, I always end up in mud pits, must be the climate and my curiosity.

The boots also saved me from getting injured when my pack horse decided to step on my foot to show me what she though of me, and they're generally better suited for me since I usually carry a heavy pack cause I like to be self-reliant for several days in the wilderness on my trips.

In my experience, all the tourists we guide wear shoes, while all the guides wear boots.

I'm European, so no hunting, trapping and fishing allowed.
Food usually weighs about 2 pounds a day no matter how you pack it.
Add a sleeping bag, roll mat, tarp+cord, emergency tools, knife, clothes for all weather, water, plus my camera, tripod, lenses and a bottle of Laphroaig (non-negotiable), you've got a heavy pack.

Nah, they have side zips top and bottom which give mental amounts of ventilation though.
They do come in other colours but red is for winners.

I don't really think any of my gear as "my best" but I definitely have favorites.

Kershaw blur being an absolute fav, i've owned a few over the years and I can't say enough good things I've always got one on me, and i've become really attached to them over the couple years i've carried them, I only own 3 though, red, black and this olive.

If I were to get another tattoo it would be of this knife

These are the best shoes I have ever owned. Had them for almost a year now with almost no sole wear or anything. I have used them for hiking, running, and pretty much everything else. Best part is that they are machine washable.

I have two of these because during winter, in late fall and most of spring in life in this pieces. A snug fit and a hoody that acts as a balaclava are the main features but it also has an amazing temperature range.

I'm with you man, every pound on your foot is equal to way more on your back. I wear the lightest thing possible or go barefoot. Always bring shoes as a backup in case though

Best made, most comfortable and the best engineered pack for the job. It's an overlander pack, one designed for month, or two month long trips. You can't beat canvas. Wonderfully the engineer and designer for the packs lives about 30 minutes away so I got to chat to him before I purchased it.

Some people camp for more than 2-3 days at a time.

Also Robens downlite sleeping bag, with the JW down jacket as a pillow ... comfiest night sleep you'll ever have. I'm naturally cold most of the time (because lol wimmenz and their circulation) and I still managed to have a nice warm, cosy nights sleep at minus 12.
