>>137512well when first starting out camping inna woods or backpacking. it can be a challenge to sort out what to bring what not to bring. its a game you can play with yourself by testing it out on real camping trips to see what you can get by with and what you can get by without.
things to not skimp on is food and water. make sure to either bring enough of each or the right tools and skills to aquire them as needed, ie; fishing or hunting small game and the ability to filter/purify water.
my practice now is always bring lots of food. and a good water filter. so i dont pack alot of water but i have the ability to filter it and refill my canteens when i reach a water source stream or a lake.
i've backpacked alot. and when i first started i just hauled in way too much crap. alot of it i didnt end up using. as time went on i streamlined my pack, cut down on everything i could. the only time i regretted it was when i didnt bring quite enough food one time.
if your just sitting around camp alot, you get bored and tend to want to eat alot.
if you stay busy , buildng shelters or going out exploring away from camp, the excersize makes you hungry and you need to eat alot.
so when it comes to food, dont go skimpy on it. sure you can bring dehydrated foods, dried meats, other lightweight food items. just make sure you bring enough of it
