>>1376204I've never had that happen and I've shot 100s of them. Use hollow points. The most they do is flop around a bit if you get a body shot. A head shot ends everything.
>>1376472>>1376169>>1376467I didn't know about coon cuffs prior to this thread. I've been using 220 Conibear traps, which are not pet safe. I use those mostly for groundhogs. I'll probably get a couple Duke brand coon cuffs later on.
>>1376472I wouldn't use the foot press method. There's always a chance of something going wrong and having it bite you. Especially with the larger ones. Plus you get feces splattering everywhere sometimes and it gets on you since you are so close. Drowning is great, but not as nice to work with when skinning and such. Plus, the location to drown them might be quite a ways away. Live traps are great for drowning.
Where I live, it is illegal to shoot an animal that is in a trap, either live trap or leg trap. Most people drown them. People who use a pole, normally put them into a sack using a sack pole. That's just the same type of pole with a sack attached to the loop. The coon goes into the sack, you cinch it up with the pull on the end of the pole handle then cart it off to be drown. You can purchase those things but they are really expensive so people make their own from some cheap flimsy PVC/CPVC piping, cord, and a sack.
