The only reason to buy or build a tiny home is if
a) You want/need to move it.
b)You are getting around restrictions by being on wheels
Because you are asking about shipping containers I'm assuming a/b) does not apply.
Shipping containers are indeed a meme. They are hot as shit in the summer, cold as hell in the
winter. So you have to insulate them, and in order to do that you need to frame the inside. This means your shipping container is essentially thousands of dollars of ugly siding and roof in a really constraining configuration. They also cost thousands to move if you ever want to move it again. And they are ugly. If you are going to build your home you should be proud of it. Not ashamed. Shame is living in a steel box.
Now, bang for buck (other than a used RV, camper, etc) is a Tedshed. Build it around the dimensions of plywood (4')so that it wastes little ie: 12'x16' cabin, 16'x16' cabin... Traditional framing is the way to go. 2x4's are practically free. You could build a cabin for the price of a tiny house trailer alone. Can also be made beautiful with care and attention.
Tedshed for my money. Cedar siding should be the goal my friend.
