A long time ago we had a thread about abandoned mines and some anons who knew their shit spoke.
It's insanely dangerous, not because it can fall on your head out of nowhere, or drown you suddenly if it rains outside, or kill you by falling in a hole covered with rotten wood and a thin layer of soil.
It's super dangerous because of invisible, undetectable without special equipment pockets of gas, co2, or air with low % of oxygen.
Look at the begining of this vid (04:25). Guys dropped a probe into a locked out shaft. Suddenly, out of nowhere, oxygen level dropped to a very dangerous level, and soon after, to a mear 8%.
