For a daypack, go to goodwill, get the cheapest 20-30L, cut off all extra features (lids, pockets you won’t use, overbuilt buckles, compression straps, too long adjustment straps, interior pockets, excess padding etc) until you’re left with a simple sack with a bottle holster and at most a front stretch pocket with some shock cord, although those features are largely pointless in a daypack.
Then, enjoy your ultralight, custom daypack for literally $2 or whatever it cost! I use my old child schoolpack, weighs 300g cut down, is tough as nails
