If you can get merino wool or other like wool that is as soft then do it, for all things that touch the skin directly:

toboggan
mittens
heavy socks
heavyweight baselayer
muffler (one that can wrap around your head 4 times will be perfect for a double wrap)

For everything else you can get the cheap itchy wool,

It is really neat being out in the snow and having the falling snow build up on you because your clothing is so well insulated while your friends are all snow free and getting wet. All you need to do is give a little flip and the snow flies off.

I just discovered all my baselayer stuff was destroyed by a mouse. It'd only been 1 week since I folded everything and put it in the drawer. I had REI brand mernio wool baselayer stuff.

Problem: No insulated, waterproof tall boot.

Solution: hiking sock, big comfy sock, and $15 farm supply store wellies. Actually more comfortable and warm than most expensive boots I tried on.

I almost got an anorak hardshell, but I opted for a jacket with bottom+top zips and core vents instead. I'd suggest against anoraks overall.

I think a jacket is just easier to don/doff and provides more options for venting. I also prefer button down shirts and zip midlayers for the same reason.

I'm sure an anorak (vs a comparable jacket) is slightly warmer, more waterproof, and slightly less weight but I think having the versatility of a zipper to dump heat vastly outweighs the benefits of an anorak.

Leaf here, I have literally snowmobiled across a frozen lake in the winter in the Northwest territories while wearing jeans. I used to work in the lumber industry outdoors year round while wearing jeans maybe with long johns if it hit -40c or lower (alberta). I happily wear the Canadian tuxedo outdoors in the cold because good denim is durable and comfy as fuck, add a couple layers and it's great for /out/.
If people die outdoors it's because they did something stupid not because of some fucking Levi's

Wisconsonite here, I went out into winter Yellowstone for 2 weeks doing field biology, tracking, snow sampling etc and we were all rolling layers under denim when we could get by without snowpants. -40 and I'm pretty sure nobody died or lost extremities. Following spring worked and lived outside for 3 weeks straight, starting in the WI flatlands and working our way to the coast through pretty much every biome in the western US and back. Denim was fine for that too.

Nice one. In the USA I think blade repair technician is the fastest growing trade. I would recommend calling up wind turbine companies to see if they have vacancies. Ask to speak to their rope access managers or see if they have apprentships. Also check colleges for short courses. The ultimate thing to remember is that it's a marathon not a sprint.

I am assuming you are talking about the caliber of bullet? It would knock a bloody great big hole in it. The blades of turbine are made of Fibre glass and balsa wood and tower is concrete/metals. Why do you ask? If you put holes in it thr blades lose aerodynamics.

I find cold weather /out/ to be overrated. It's really not that hard. I wear a basic three layer setup (synthetic fiber long johns + wool sweater/pants + generic jacket and sweat pants) and I had no issues in -7C while sleeping (didn't even need my sleeping bag)
