If you want a knife that's a SURVIVAL knife, then you really need something more substantial. On the low end of the price spectrum is the Old Hickory Butcher knife, it's a 7" full tang knife that can handle much larger tasks and costs less than $15, and fits nice and snug in just about any 7" Ka Bar sheath. I recommend replacing the handle rivets with something larger, or adding a third as they can loosen up after heavy use in larger battoning tasks. On the higher end of the price spectrum are the Fallkniven A1, and Randall Knives No5 Camp and Trail knife at around $180 and $380 respectively, though the Glock OEM field survival knife is also not a bad purchase at about $35.
Personally, I do just fine with my Old Hickory and Companion combo with a Corona 9" folding saw, but I also carry a hatchet or camp axe sometimes, especially if I'm going to be in an area with only hard wood.
