Beautiful sets all round the mainland. Managed to get out in Dunedin today, didn't realise there were quality downhill MTB tracks.

Aussie here, would love to visit your country again one day. Any recommendations for hiking in the South Island? I did the routeburn and Milford tracks a few years back but I'm looking for something a bit less busy.

From what you describe, dunedin seems more suited for you. Lots of social groups/partying/clubs. You just have to be prepared for the climate but there is pretty of out activities all year long.

I cant say i know the south island that well apart from Dunedin. The tongariro national park in the North island is a favourite of mine and i highly recommend it if you visit

I plan on it. I drove all the way through the north and south islands, hit 3 national parks, Auckland, Wellington, Queenstown, stayed 2 gorgeous nights in wine country and still feel like I could have seen so much more. Could have stayed in Abel Tasman alone for a week. Definitely plan on hitting Kahurangi next time around too.

I think of the cities I visited I'd rate them Wellington>Auckland>Queenstown. Wellington was one of my favorite cities I've ever been to. Got an Airbnb with a great view of the bay and as a last minute thing we booked a night tour at Zealandia and I was blown away. Stunning nature preserve literally inside of the city. Perfectly quiet and serene early in the night, saw kiwis, longfin eel, weta. Really seemed dedicated to preservation and conservation. I kind of got that vibe from the entire country which was really refreshing compared to what I'm used to in the states.

Yeah I was happy with the parks that I chose but there were so many more that I wanted to go to that I just didn't have time for. I went between graduating college and starting my job and I'm not sure when I'll get another chance to just fuck off for a month to go back, but as soon as I have the time I'm going.

Abel Tasman is gorgeous, Marlborough Sounds gives you a great chance to kayak around, Two Thumbs Range and Mt. Somers in Canterbury is fantastic, the South Island is frankly a mecca for /out/ stuff, there's so much possibility
