>>1383503I also have a strong urge to move to the mountains. I've considered buying some land, or maybe even a camp, where I can escape to. I'd love to just pitch up a tent and call that home during warmer seasons.
I just finished traveling around the US for 2 months, sleeping in my car the entire time. It was super comfy and cozy. Humidity could be a bit annoying but nothing serious. Sleeping in the mountains was my favorite part. There were no human noises. The tree frogs and crickets undulate and slowly quiet down throughout the early morning hours. I naturally woke up at 5:00 as the sun was coming up, which was nice cause I consequently went to sleep early and didn't have to lay in the dark for too long.
Back to reality, the only problem is money and a stable job. If you've got both of those, you can buy your little escape now, and learn the rest as you go.
As far as surviving, canned meals (chili, thick soups, baked beans) are pretty good (watch sugar/salt though. Some brands add too much). Bread and butter is good (No fridge. I bought cultured butter (NOT Irish) assuming the bacteria would fend off mold, and it did).
