>>1387205Man. If that's what camping is for you, I feel bad for you my dude. I camp fairly light and sleep in a hammock shelter (hammock with mosquito net top, and a tarp over my ridge line, tied to trees so it's basically like a tent) with a wool blanket under me and a sleeping bag in my hammock when it's cold, and blankets when it's not. I carry a small hatchet and folding saw for my wood, because why fucking baton wood when a hatchet does it faster and better? As for food, I take either MREs or freeze dried meals with me so I've never had an issue with not having what I need. Never broken a knife in 30 years of camping. Always wake up feeling really rested and comfy before starting my fire, tossing a little damp wood on for smoke if there's insects (I usually go in the fall and don't have to worry about them though), heat up some water for my coffee and scrambled eggs, sausage, and potatoes breakfast skillet meal, have a hike and enjoy being /out/, head back to camp, and if it's a warm day or I'm feeling sweaty and gross, I'll unpack my little camp shower, rig it up to a tree and have a warm rinse off before settling back into my hammock with a book.
Camping is my way of unwinding and avoiding shit like cell phones, and the only one I take with me is a really durable little waterproof dumbphone for emergencies. Otherwise, the only other electronics with me are flashlights and a small radio for listening to weather stations or contacting the nearest ranger station if my phone doesn't do the trick.
Maybe you should try socially camping. Take a friend. Or maybe camping just isn't your thing.
