Do "natural forests" still exist in NA and Europe, unaffected by men?

I'm thinking of a forest like Mirkwood, especially the eastern end.

I just want a creepy, gritty forest man.

As far as Europe is concerned, there is Białowieża Forest. And Poles were stupid enough to fucking cut down third of it in past year, to be sold for timber. Ironically Belarusian side is more concerned in preserving it than Poles.

There are plenty of old growth forests in the northern United States that aren't managed by forest services. One for example is the Eastern Hemlock/Yellow Birch old growth forest in the porcupine mountains

Russia is Europe, so there. Might check out Karelia. Some of my acquaintances went there to do rock climbing - to get to those rocks, they needed to walk like 20-30 km from the farthest point the jeeps can take you. So if you really wanted to, you could find a place that somewhere even more remote.
Just be aware that if something happens, you are pretty much on your own. Combine that with ticks everywhere, as well clouds of mosquitoes and gnats.

If you want within EU, then some parts of Baltics and Scandinavia might be what you are looking for, but it's also mostly evergreens. If you are looking for something straight out of Tolkien, then you are out of luck.

Of course there are. Any forest that isn't harvested for lumber is still a "natural forest". IE if there are trees that have fallen and not chopped up = natural forest.

I've been to a few nature preserves in Sweden where the forest is 600+ years old. You might see a few stumps with saw or axe marks but they're usually more than a hundred years old.
You can see trees that have survived 8 or more forest fires, downed logs everywhere, lots of standing dead wood, a thick carpet of moss, lichen everywhere etc. Makes most forests feel downright sterile by comparison.

There's virgin spruce forest in West Virginia in Monongahela National Forest. It's quite small because most of it was logged in the late 1800's/early 1900's, which caused the moss understory to dry into peat. The trains carrying the logs caused sparks which ignited the peat and the resulting fire was so bad that it didn't get put out till the snows came in November. A writer who went down there to report on the blaze said it was so bright that he could read the newspaper on his porch by the light of the fire burning in the next valley over.
