Does anyone here follow a training regimen to make sure that they're fit enough for the great outdoors?

I go to the gym 3 times a week, pretty strict with a healthy diet and making sure I eat right for my goals. I usually hike at least once a week when I can get the free time, and tend to do it in pretty hilly terrain with a decent weight in my pack to keep my stamina up. I climb a few times a week too, so that keeps me pretty fresh for scrambling season. Your routine should depend on what you aim to accomplish. I aim for a few mountain peaks a year, so I like to keep at least moderately fit.

Yup, moderate weight lifting twice a week, two 5-6 hour hikes a week and healthy diet. Also have an active job. Definitely try and stay fit for /out/.

i hike with a ~50 lb pack a lot. pic related, except it's a year or so old. he's a hell of a lot bigger now. it makes it real nice when i drop down to 35 lbs for backpacking.

when i climbed best i lifted weights (deadlifts ftw), but i fucked up my shoulder at work and haven't been able to get back into it again until recently.

I stretch after I shower then take long walks in the evenings around my house, try to take the route with the most incline. there's also a massive set of stairs that Ill climb a few times. sometimes Ill run for cardio. I do this most days of the week, it's easy, no gym and keeps me fit for backpacking

Heavy squats in your weight training and just hiking with a loaded pack whenever you go /out/. The more you go out for a hike or camping your body adapts. Also, I want to go to a hot spring with a fuckton of chill ass capybaras and feed them fruit while I sip on some good vodka.

Yep. General liftan (SQ/DL/OHP/chins) and conditioning (easy rowing, easy hikes, recreational mountain biking) when the trip is far away, trail runs and weighted hikes as it gets closer.

Run 2-3.3 miles Monday Wednesday and Friday. On Tuesday Thursday and Saturday, do strong lifts 5x5. It's the simplest complete workout that targets strength and mobility endurance.
