Just go a bit away from a popular landmark or easily accessible trailhead. Or go in weather that seems bad to fair weather hikers if you do want an easier hike.
Made a dumb mistake like that once before but generally everything starts drastically and exponentially thinning out as it gets less instantly gratifying in my exprience.

Yes I'm normally very good at hike choosing but I came here to visit my parents since they're at this park.

I love those longer out and back trails that get less and less worn as you go down them, where you can see where all the normies give up and head back. Anyone you pass beyond there you know will be chill

Went backpacking this past weekend with some people. One guy does a lot of challenging /out/ stuff, but he doesn't really get the experience of the outdoors. He was in the tent at night looking at instagram. He used his phone for navigation too. I get the navigation thing, but it's nice to get away from the electronics for a few days. Why not use a printed map or write down directions on paper? It's almost like lots of people these days go outdoors just because it's "cool" instead of to just enjoy the outdoors.
