>>1390994I've done it a few times. Sunrise and sunset are great, you don't have to go up/down the mountain on the same day, and no one does it, so very peaceful.
A couple things to consider: wind and cold are MUCH stronger on top of mountains, in my area 3-4 times stronger. It sucks the heat right out of your sleeping bag, so bring a good tent and only do it in ideal weather. Pack as light as you can, it makes a huge difference in how much you want to die on the climb up. This is basically the reason I went ultralight. Something you may not have considered is water. If there is no snow, the nearest water may be 2000 feet below the summit. This means you have to take ALL the water you need for the night up the slopes. Lots of water = more weight.
Thats why I only do it occasionally.
