NAUI Master Diver, Nitrox, etc. here. Yeah, it's awesome. Don't catch the gear bug despite the fact that unfortunately, that's the only way a dive shop can make money. Get basic gear and try to stay as lightweight as possible, or you WILL hate it. When I have to do dives, after over 2000 under my belt as of now, the one thing that makes me sigh and think of it as a pain in the ass is gear weight. If I'm going to my local, quiet places I take bare bones equipment and have a lot more fun. My thought is, your entire gear package (minus tank) for non-technical dives should weigh less than an empty aluminum 80 tank. Throw ALL of your shit (fins, mask, weights, regs, dive bag - I mean it, EVERYTHING you'd need to haul on to a boat or dock - on a scale. If it weighs more than about 30 pounds, start chucking shit. You'll be happy you did, and you'll dive more often.
