Sup /out/, I'm looking for a general use outdoors knife. I want it to be from good metal, and posibly not to have thick blade.

these are basic /out/ knives. most of them cum with a high amount of quality. these knife company's produce also expensive models.

good isn't expensive.

check out youtube channel equip2endure they have a few knife videos you might like ranging all price ranges.

also check some knife forums and look for ideas, with 500 dollars you could definitely get a really great knife, 2 even, but if i had the money to toss around i would buy a chris reeve knife, known for quality work and material and will fix any problem you or your great-great-great-great-great grandson have with the knife... ANY PROBLEM

i've got a friend with a CR knife that refuses to carry it and rarely use it because it was so expensive even though he could send it in and get it fixed for the price it takes to ship it.

I would suggest you start off cheep find what works for you, what fits your usage, and what you like.

Keeping the blade not thick or at least not a tactical pry bar in scope also assuming a fixed blade I have found that I like the following companies and models.

ESEE- Izula II, 4, 6
Fallkniven- A1, F1 (S1 but haven't used it yet)
Bark River- Bravo-1 Rampless, Aurora, Kephart
Ontario- Blackbird SK-5
Buck-119
Becker- BK7, BK16, BK17
Mora- Companion, Classic Number 2, (Companion Heavy Duty MG the jury is still out)

There's no reason to go over $100 US unless you just want to flash the brand name.

I'd recommend an Ahti leuku. They know how to make knives. I'd put the quality up against any knife for three times the price and the fit and finish are perfect. It has that lovely Scandi grind and feels very solid yet light in the hand. It's also imported from Finland. It's the top knife in the pic here: >>138896

That knife has a good cutlery steel core, VG10, laminated with 420 stainless. 420 stainless makes a crappy knife, but good outer laminate layers.

If somebody ever swipes my Ahti I might try one of those.

Ka-Bar tangs are fine if you remember it's a knife and not a crowbar. Serrations are an open admission thet you don't know how to use or maintain your knife.

personally i've heard nothing but good things about the becker bk2 companion, not sure if you took that dudes advice from above and went to equip2endure but he likes that knife and pretty sure basically uses it as his standard carry innawoods.

It's basically a bushcraft knife on steroids

I second that crowbar thing, I dont use a knife as a crowbar, i use a crowbar as a crowbar. I know how to maintain and use a knife, but sharpening serrations are kind of a bitch, Also I find they get in the way more than they are useful

Serrations are a feature. There are about 10 different types. They each serve a different serve a purpose. They are useful. In their own situations.

That's not entirely true. At my old job I had to cut a lot of rope. Serrations were pretty much required, but I still needed a smooth blade for other parts of the job.

If you cut thick rope then you will want serrations.
