long time lurker here - want to show you my emergency kit it take with me on hikes, city travels etc

main source of inspiration was emergency pouch that wiseman showed in the SAS survival guide, but i adabpted it a little to fit my nees better

weight is 1,7kg (roughly 2 pounds for the emperial guy here)

it's quite small (15cm, yes i have big hands), my priority was that it would fit in the pouch
but quite sturdy (5 mm thick), easy to sharpen and cheap

i had a little argument with myself over that one because the blade cannot be opened with only one hand free

under the folder there is this lamp (maglite xl200)
i chose it because it's an LED, fits perfectly in the tin and you can dimm it - then one set of batteries last for over 200 hours

and of course i packed an additional set of batteries

here the oven opened and the fuel (the plastic bag around it is to prevent little pieces of broken fuel pellets to spread everywhere)

IMO you goofed here. First aid supplies need to be readily accessible very quickly. As it stands now, you have to:

>pull off the rope and rubber bands from your tin
>open the tin
>pull out all your shit

just to get to the first aid supplies. Too inefficient.

Looks like a fairly comprehensive little kit. It will change of course as time goes on you will add and take away items as needed. I would add the following however this is just me.

For the cordage something high visibility or some flagging tape.
A means of navigation or backup navigation yes you can use a stick watch or basic flora to point you but a compass just works.
I am a fan of bank line but the cordage will cover that although you might consider some duct tape and electrical tape.
Tights or pantyhose trimmed down will work for a filter and can be made into a small sack for transport of materials.
A condom or bag can be used for water additional water transport.
I will assume you will be boiling water for purification.
I am not getting into a fishing/birding kit but you might look into some hooks.
Some space saving ideas you might look into are for some items drinking straws can be cut down and sealed.
Also they do make smaller pencils.

No they don't. Usually, any kind of bleeding can be held with a towel and pressure with one hand while ripping apart your pack with the other hand. His kit is not that hard to rip apart, and if that's where his first aid kit fits best, then that's where it should be.

Actually they sell a highly concentrated version of unhopped beer called "whiskey", it's a lot more convenient to pack.
