Otherwise, quick access will be job specific and items won't store in a front pants pocket. Where they store will depend on what job is being done. Like if you are working with a chainsaw, you want ear plugs, safety glasses, some oil, T-wrench, and 1st aid kit for quick access, but for hiking you just need some water and maybe a snack. For photography it will be a second lens, extra battery, lens cloth, and rain bag. Due to being radically different jobs where you don't want contaminates from one getting on the other (chain oil on your camera lens is the worst thing ever), you need different containers to put them in or need them attached to different parts of your body.
In general, quick access items will be in pants pockets, fanny pack, belt clip, webbing attachment, or shoulder bag. It'll never be on a backpack except for a sheath or webbing attachment you can reach easily without taking the pack off.
